Quick Mac Tip: Jump Scrolling

System Preferences - SimpleLeap.com

Do you ever find yourself doing just a little more scrolling than you would like to on your Mac? Well I think I might have what may end up being one of your favorite Mac shortcuts to date – The Jump Scroll shortcut. Using the jump scroll shortcut is easy and can speed up your search for anything in almost in application, whether it’s a search in Safari or some text in your favorite to do list app.

To jump scroll all you have to do is hold down the Option key and click anywhere in a window’s scroll bar to jump to a particular spot (rather than scrolling one screen). This shortcut works in Mac OS X in general, and thus in most native Mac OS X applications (including Cram). You can also adjust your settings in the Appearance preference pane to make this behavior a default action. To make jump scroll a default action, simply:

  1. System Preference Window - SimpleLeap.comUse Spotlight and type “System Preferences” or From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
  2. Click on the “Appearance” icon .
  3. Appearance Panel - SimpleLeap.comScroll down and locate “Click in the scroll bar to:”
  4. Now select “Jump to…” wherever you want it to select.

So next time you want to quickly jump to something further down the page, don’t scroll use “Option-Click” in Scroll Bars for Jump Scrolling.
